CCFC is now GCC

At the April meeting, our club voted unanimously to switch our council affiliation within the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF), from the Southern Council to Gulf Coast Council. As the map shows, we were already within the geographic boundary of the newly-reformed GCC, which consists of clubs and individual members in Louisiana, Mississippi, and coastal Alabama.  Previously, clubs in south Texas were also part of the Gulf Coast Council, and clubs in north Texas were part of the Southern Council.  Because of changes in the way the FFF is allocating educational, conservation and other resources, it behooved all Texas clubs to unite into one council, and in January, the Texas Council was formed.  Likewise, it behooved our club to be part of the GCC, for which we already had many ties and friendships.  We look forward to being a big part of this young council and working to promote fly fishing and conservation in the region!

2013 Bass On The Fly

The 4th annual "Bass on The Fly" fishing tournament will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Lake Fork Marina near Alba, Texas (3 hours from Natchitoches). This is exclusively fly fishing and catch-photo-release. Organizer Ted Warren says the goal is to grow the sport of fly fishing among warm water anglers. The cost is $55/angler and there is a motorboat division and a non-motorboat division (canoe, kayak, pontoon, float tube, bank). There's also a Club Division... if enough CCFC members register we can compete here as well. Activities begin Friday afternoon, May 10, and continue after the weigh-in Saturday. There will be plenty of door prizes and a nice goody bag (hats, tee shirts, flies, etc.). There will also be free casting lessons and contests, as well as kayak demos. Early registration: register before May 1st and be eligible for drawing for a Sage Largemouth Fly Rod! Onsite registration also available. For all the info and entry form, go to www.bassonthefly.org.
