Cane Country Fly Casters is a family-oriented club established to serve the fly fishing interests of the Red River Region of Louisiana. We are a non-profit organization, and a charter club in the International Federation of Fly Fishers, and affiliated with the IFFF Gulf Coast Council.
Meetings
We hold our regular monthly meetings at 6:30 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of
each month, with the exception of June, July and August. Our meetings
are open to the public and you are welcome to participate. Our programs
include fly fishing videos, talks by biologists, regional fishing and
fly fishing experts, and other individuals with topics of interest to
members, fly tying demonstrations, and casting instruction.
We currently meet at:
Westside Baptist Church Family Life Center
6834 Hwy 1 Bypass,
Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457
(for directions, see map below)
Membership
Membership dues are $20 per individual, and $25 per family, payable at the start of the calendar year.
As a charter club in the IFFF, it is also required that CCFC members be members of the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF). Dues vary, with discounts for multi-year, senior, junior, and family also available. Please check the IFFF website at www.fedflyfishers.org for details. As an IFFF member, you'll receive "The Flyfisher" magazine as well as savings on IFFF books and videos. The club benefits in several ways, which keeps our dues lower. Plus, we get discounts or even free educational materials and equipment.
Fishing
The vast abundance and diversity of freshwaters in our area make it one of the great places to catch bass, bream, crappie, white bass, and other species on the fly. These include deep reservoirs, small lakes, swampy backwaters, dormant oxbows, live oxbows, bayous, sandy streams, rocky streams, and even the Red River. Toledo Bend ranks as one of the top 10 bass waters in the nation.
But we aren't just about warmwater. Most of our members routinely fish saltwater and coldwater. Calcasieu Lake (saltwater) is less than 3 hours away and the Little Missouri and Mountain Fork rivers (trout) are less than 4 hours.
The Art of the Sport
Most of our members tie their own flies. Some even make or build rods. We also have members who are into other aspects of the outdoors, from camping/hiking to paddling to nature photography. Whatever it is you would like to learn, we can either help or point you in the right direction.
Good casting is the key to fly fishing success. We have several members who are proficient casters and can help others. Cane Country members who have passed the IFFF Casting Instructor Certification Program are willing to conduct a clinic free to club members, if enough interest.
